Qwik Fuel Convenience Store is the third mission in both SWAT 4 and SWAT: Elite Force. The SWAT team is tasked with handling a botched convenience store robbery that turned into a hostage situtation.

Mission Briefing[]

We're looking at a barricade/hostage situation, with at least three hostages. Dispatch received a 911 call at around 0600. A commuter pulled in to get gas and pulled out again when she noticed an armed woman coming out the front door. She called 911 on her cell phone. The first officers on the scene observed multiple gunmen, number unclear, and at least one unarmed civilian inside. When the gunmen threatened the civilian, they backed off and set up a perimeter.

So far we have one likely ID: Alice Jenkins. She's been in rehab for oxycodone addiction. Oxycodone is an opiate similar to heroin, equally addictive. It's prescribed legally as a Schedule II drug, making it possible for any idiot with a falsely obtained prescription to turn dealer. It sells for up to eighty dollars a pop on the street.

Knowing Jenkins, this is probably a bungled robbery for drug money, possibly related to a rash of recent convenience store hits. She and her cronies didn't intend to take any hostages, and they don't know what to do with them. That makes them more dangerous, since we can't predict what they might do, and they've stopped talking to the negotiator. Given their erratic behavior, at least some of the suspects may be high. They are armed with handguns, and we have visual confirmation of three suspects so far. There may be more.

As far as the hostages go, we believe there are three: Kim Dong Yin, Heidi Rosenstein, and Willis Fischer, employees at the station. There might be additional customers, but it's unlikely. Be extremely careful when you go in. You will have high ground support at your two entry options. Given the recent spate of gunfire, we can't wait any longer; it's time for a tactical solution. Study the situation, gear up, and let's move.

Timeline[]

  • 06:15 911 Call - 911 call by customer, reporting a gunman and a potential hostage situation at the Qwik Fuel. Dispatch notifies emergency services. SWAT notified.
  • 06:30: SWAT Arrives - SWAT arrives on scene. High ground established; containment perimeter confirmed.
  • 06:45: CNT contacts suspects - CNT (Crisis Negotiation Team) confirms presence of three hostages and at least 3 armed suspects. Entry team assembled.
  • 07:15: Tactical entry begun - Shots fired. Decision made to go tactical.

Entries and Snipers[]

The only entry location lies at the back of the store which leads to two possible entrances into the building, one leads to the storage area and the loading bay while the other leads to the back door.

Two snipers are setup on this mission. Sierra 1 covers the main store area while Sierra 2 covers the back alley along the back door.

Map Layout[]

The intel provided on this mission is mostly accurate in describing the layout of the entire map. However, the clutters in the office, the storage room and the shopping area are mostly omitted. It also does not describe the layout of the back alley, nor the fact that the refrigeration room and the loading area are exposed to outside observations.

This building resembles a typical gas station / convenience store. The main entrance located on side 1 leads straight into the shopping area with many shelves filled with products such as snacks, drinks, motor oils, paper towels and so on. There is also a cash desk where customers could pay for the bought products. In the eastern part of the shopping area located on side 4 are the refrigerators with cold drinks and ready to eat meals as well as a door that leads to the main refrigeration area. Behind the refrigerators is the owner's office, which contains the store's safe. The rear side located on side 3 of the building features two restrooms, as well as the entrance to the break room for the employees. Behind the cash desk is a small security office that leads to the main storage area located on side 2 with shelves filled with various products and cardboard boxes. The storage area connects to the loading area outside where shipments are dropped off. There's also a side entrance that leads straight to the storage area from outside of the building.

Tactical Approach[]

The suspects are mostly lightly armed with pistols and shotguns, although some may rarely spawn with an assault rifle for an extra punch. They are not equiped with any protections.

The entrance the player choose to enter the building is not a great concern when it comes to this mission. The player may choose to enter through the door that leads to the storage area or through the back door along the alley. However, there are instances where suspects may either be present or hiding in the alley. At certain occasions Sierra 2 may report the presence of a suspect in the back alley who has unsuspectingly chose to patrol the entry location.

The passage leading to the storage area and the loading bay ultimately leads the team to the main store area, while the back door leads the team to a corridor with three separate doorways each opening into either the two offices or the main store area. Alternative entries to the building and individual rooms may be wedged for the sake of convenience and to prevent fleeing suspects to take refuge in rooms that have already been cleared.

Changes in Elite Force[]

  • Drug packets may be found on the map that must be secured as evidence. The suspects may also carry drug evidence along with them.
  • The assault rifles have been replaced with machine pistols in suspects' equipment pool. Also the Desert Eagle has been enabled for the suspects.
  • Since the briefing before the mission states that the suspects are probably high, all suspects now have a 35% chance to experience cardiac arrest, while Alice Jenkins' risk is raised to 50%.
  • Alice Jenkins' personality is set to insane i.e. less hesitant to shoot hostages.
  • Assuming subsquent missions are not unlocked, player and AI SWAT officers will have no defense against CS Gas grenades.
  • This mission unlocks the Remington M870 shotgun and its breaching variant.

Trivia[]

  • Alice Jenkins is believed to be a drug addict which explains the reason behind the burglary of the store, probably in an attempt to gain drug money. It is also explicitly revealed in her character and behavior especially when encountering the officers as she often screams with extreme desperation. For example, she responds by saying "Leave me alone!" or "I don't think so!" when the officers order for compliance from her and "I'm not going back!" with reference to the fact that she has once been in rehabilitation for her drug addiction.
  • On securing Heidi Rosenstein, she would sometimes make a comment on Kim Dong Yin, another civilian who must be rescued, displaying her keen interest in his safety. "Is Kim alright? Where is he?" However, neither Kim nor Heidi mention Wills Fischer.
  • According to the comments in the game code, Wills Fischer's last name was originally called "Fillinger".
